External Shroud

An external shroud is a removable protective cylindrical cover installed around the outer surface of a metal bellows expansion joint.

Usually constructed in two or more segments, the shroud is fixed at one end while the other end remains free to allow for axial or lateral bellows movement.

EJMA guidelines are taken into consideration while designing these MEJs.

This protective feature serves multiple purposes Shields the bellows from external mechanical damage (e.g., falling objects or accidental impacts),Prevents arc strikes and weld spatter during nearby welding operations,Provides a base for external insulation, helping maintain process temperatures and protect personnel.

Applications

  • High-temperature pipelines (thermal insulation)
